coach eyeglasses ivy – NSHS 2009 Thanksgiving Day football game, appearing in order left to right in first semicircle John Passarini, Steve Parnell (pony tail), Nicky Parnell (wht hat), George Winkler (blk leather jkt), Don Sutherland (glasses), Mark Young (mustache), Shawn Daley (orange hat), John Connolly next, Freddy Virgilio (handlebar white mustache). Steve Parnell, MD stellar multi-sport NSHS athlete, Quarterback of the 1965, 8-1 team that lost Class B state championship on the 1 foot line as time ran out against undefeated Revere High School. Steve Parnell starred at UMASS was all Yankee Conference and played one year with the Atlanta Falcons as well. Steve Parnell, Coach Kojoyian, and John Passarini, PhD recant the events of this game 44 years later. John Passarini another multi sport All-Scholastic star at NSHS and played football and wrestled at UCONN. John later coached wrestling at Waltham High School and his star heavyweight was Freddy Smerlas, before Freddy had a great career at Boston College and was a All-Pro for the Buffalo Bills. The center on the 65 team was was Dick Aghababian not shown in these pictures but earned his MD as well and played ball at Harvard. The center, the quarterback, and the fullback all received their doctorships in medicine and academia. The 1965 team was a stellar group of men both athletically and academically. One of the finest teams to wear Blue and Orange and one of the most driven and committed to excellence of my fathers 58 year career as a coach …
