Here they review Eyeshield 21 for Wii and feature it on their “Made in Japan” segment–apparently mostly to make fun of how inaccurate it is and how it’s obviously showing the creators’ warped sense of what American Football REALLY is. However, there’s not much excuse for their presentation here in my opinion. I haven’t played the video game, so I reserve judgment on whether it is indeed accurate as far as the football itself. But judging it as “how the Japanese view American sports” and then featuring the protagonist team’s quarterback shooting off his gun? NO. The reviewers were aware that this was “based off a popular manga,” but they obviously haven’t read it. Not that I expect game reviewers to read every bit of source material for games that come out, but that would have definitely helped them understand why Hiruma has a gun. It’s not because the Japanese don’t understand American football. It’s because Hiruma is an extremely inappropriate, violent person, and he’s always popping up with a gun or a threat of blackmail or a kick in the back for doing a GOOD job. EVERYONE ELSE THERE THINKS HE’S NUTS FOR HAVING A GUN TOO. Do they really think Japanese people have the misconception that Americans bring weapons onto the sports field? In high school? No!
