Question by Jen CP: How to look “cool” when being picked on?
You might recognize me by now. I’m trying to find a way to get “bullies” off my middle school daughter’s back. Something I’ve come to recognize is that she REACTS when someone picks on her, calling her “four eyes” or whatever. When I got glasses in 2nd grade, I walked into my class, and everybody exclaimed, “Hey, you got glasses!” Excited, I said, “Yeah! I’m so glad! Maybe I can finally see the board.”
Yes, of course, I had people saying “four eyes.” I either ignored it (glad to have glasses!) or if they really irritated me, I did the old, “Four eyes are better than two!” My favorite one, though, was “Better to see you with, My Dear!” (That way, they started picking on me about calling the guy “dear” instead of focusing on my face.)
My daughter has been tormented so much already, though, and she just doesn’t know how to play it off. WHAT can I tell her, to make it okay?

Your name looks really bad when you try to talk about her with a name like CP. You can tell her that if she doesn’t learn how to ignore it she’ll never be able to grow up.
